Edwards Guides Pioneers to Win Over Previously Unbeaten NDC

GLENVILLE – Glenville State's Men posted a strong Mountain East Conference win Wednesday night, defeating previously undefeated Notre Dame 97-91 at the Waco Center.

This game featured two of the league's most prolific scorers; Glenville's John Williams and Notre Dame's Jaedon Willis. The two stars did not disappoint, with Williams leading the Pioneers with 27 points, and Willis filling the basket with 38 points for the Falcons.

Williams would score 24 of his points in the second half, leading the second half GSC surge. However, it was GSC's Matthew Allman who carried the team in the first half, connecting on a barrage of three-point field goals, leading GSC to a 42-38 halftime lead.

After a 7-0 Falcon run tied the game at 52-52 early in the second half, GSC began to assert control behind Williams' drives and Nick Edwards laser passes to open shooters. The GSC lead apexed at 13 points late in the contest at 88-75. Still, Notre Dame rallied and cut the deficit to inside of five points in the final minute…but the Pioneers were able to hang on for the victory.

Besides Williams 27, Allman closed with 22, Zane Desouza and Edwards with 14 each, and Tommy Williams 10. Edwards just missed a triple-double with 14 points, 14 assists, and nine rebounds. John Williams' line also included five assists and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Glenville shot an even 50.0% for the night (32-of-64), including 17-of-40 from beyond the arc (42.5%). GSC led in total rebounds 40-34.

Willis' 38-point night was complemented by Tyland Crawford with 11 and DeArius Barker 10.

Glenville improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the MEC. Notre Dame falls to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the league.

Coach Justin Caldwell's Pioneers return to action Saturday, traveling to Alderson-Broaddus. Tip-off is set for 4:00 at the Rex Pyles Arena.
