Athens, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers (8-3) went on the road Saturday and picked up a 19-point victory over Concord University (8-7) defeating the Mountain Lions, 100-81.
The Pioneers had four players in double figures with
John Williams posting a game-high 33 points and seven rebounds. It's the second straight game that Williams as scored 30-plus points.
How It Happened
First Half:
Concord picked up a quick 9-7 lead in the first five minutes of play,
Seth Fallon then tied the contest on a short floater then gained the lead on
John Williams big dunk.
Then the Blue and White entered at a 16-7 run with big buckets by
Tommy Williams and
Nick Edwards to hold 27-16.
The Pioneers would the accumulate to a 20 points lead as
Rian Carter sunk a three ball and J. Williams fixed in a layup both from
Nick Edwards holding 43-22 with 4:17 left.
J. Williams, Edwards and Carter each added freebies form the stripe as
Luke LeRose picked up a three ball ending the half leading 50-30.
GSC shot effectively in the first half with 50% from the floor and 6-for-20 from deep as CU shot only 30% from the floor.
Second Half:
Opening the second, CU entered a quick 9-2 run but the Pioneers still held a 52-39 lead at the 17:47 mark.
Zane Desouza would help GSC answer as he connected on back-to-back three-pointers making it 58-45 with under 17:00 to play.
Then the Mountain Lions caught fire as they pulled within eight, 59-51, with a little under 15:00 minutes to play.
GSC and CU would go up and down trading buckets as they each scored 11 points as the Pioneers still led 70-62 with under 10:00 to play.
Glenville State then stretched their lead to 88-69 over the Mountain Lions as the Pioneers went on an 18-7 run with just five to play.
The Pioneers would go on to pick up the 19-point road victory over the Mountain Lions 100-81.

GSC shot 52% from the floor and 30% from deep netting 10 three-pointers. CU shot 40% from the field but shot just 16% from deep.
The Pioneers also scored 23 points off of 17 Mountain Lions turnovers.
Nick Edwards posted 26 points as he went 9-for-11 from the floor with six assists and six rebounds.
Zane Desouza chipped in with 11 points while
Tommy Williams scored 10 in the win.
Hegel Augustin scored just six points but grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Concord was led by Liam Evans as he scored 20 points while Malik Johnson chipped in with 18 points.
