Lady Pioneers Drop Final Regular Season Contest

Athens, W.Va. – Late run lifts Concord University (9-6) past the Glenville State Lady Pioneers (10-2) as they fell 97-86 on the road in last regular season contest.
 
The big three each scored in double figures as Taychaun Hubbard totaled team high 21 points with Zakiyah Winfield tallying 19 and Re'Shawna Stone chipping in with 16.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Zakiyah Winfield would get the first two points of the contest for the Lady Pioneers as she tied it up at 2-2. Concord then went on an 8-3 run as they held a 10-5 lead after a Riley Fitzwater layup at the 7:06 mark. 
 
The Mountain Lions then made another run, this time outscoring the Lady Pioneers, 9-2 as they held a 19-7 lead with 4:05 left in the quarter.  
 
Taychaun Hubbard scored the last points of the first as Glenville State then ended the quarter on a 9-7 run as they pulled within 10, 26-16.  
 
Second Quarter:
 
Then in the second, Mashayla Cecil and Dazha Congleton both sunk threes to kick start a 14-7 run.
 
Taychaun Hubbard then added a layup as Zakiyah Winfield converted a three-point conversion to trail just by one at 35-36. The Blue and white then gained their first lead of the contest with 43 seconds left in the half as Hubbard chipped in with a layup.
 
Subsequently afterwards, Hubbard connected with Winfield for another basket then adding three freebies ending the half 47-43.
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 42% from the floor with the Mountain Lions shooting 52.3%.
 
Third Quarter:
 
After the break, both teams continued to trade baskets equally as Deja Atkinson sunk a short tear drop from Stone then assisting Abby Stoller for another bucket.
 
Concord held a short advantage throughout the third as the Lady Pioneers looked to takeover the Mountain Lions.
 
Cecil tallied another triple with a jumper from Mitchell and Winfield to end the third tied at 68 all.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
Opening the fourth, Stone connected on a three-point conversion regaining the Blue and White's lead for the second time at 71-68.
 
Though quickly answering back, Concord would hit a three ball to tie again at 73 striking an 18-6 run.
 
Breaking up the Mountain Lion run was Vendella Danielsson with a three ball from Congleton to trail 91-82.
 
Stone and Hubbard added two layups to end the contest but wouldn't be enough for Glenville State as they fell 97-86.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
Shooting 42% from the field and just 7-for-37 from deep, the Lady Pioneers tallied 35 rebounds, 26 fast break points and 14 points off turnovers.
 
Abby Stoller picked up 11 rebounds with Zakiyah Winfield following with eight on the day.
 
Re'Shawna Stone tallied six assists as Taychaun Hubbard chipped in with three steals in the contest.
 
Vendella Danielsson also chipped in with nine points.
 
Concord effectively shot 60% from the floor and 50% from deep while picking up 18 turnovers converting 13 into points. CU was lead by Riley Fitzwater with 34 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.
Coming Up
 
The Blue and White are gearing up to play in the Mountain East Conference Tournament scheduled from March 3-7th in Wheeling, WV. The Lady Pioneers will face West Liberty  March 4th at 11:00am.
