Glenville Softball Falls Short Against Dragons & Warriors

Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State dropped a pair of contests against Tiffin University, 3-1 and Wayne State 7-6 ending their weekend tournament with a short 3-8 record.
 
Mackenzie Martinelli led the Blue and White pack in their pair of games picking up four hits and two RBIs.
 
How It Happened
 
Game One:
 
Tiffin University quickly earned a 2-0 lead over Glenville State in the first, Catherine Pelfrey opened the bottom half by drawing a walk but would be left on base.
 
Then in the top of the the third, the Dragons swiped another run across the plate extending their lead to 3-0. In the foot of the inning, Jessica Williams and Calla Cooksey both drew walks for the Pioneers as Williams would be replaced by Lauren Kisner. Attempting to push the runners ahead, Kisner was tossed out at third.
 
Karra Smith ended TU's no hitter in the fourth with a double to right field and claiming third on a wild pitch. Mackenzie Martinelli singled to first scoring Smith cutting the deficit 3-1.
 
In the fifth, Williams picked up a hit to second as Cooksey then reached first on a fielder's choice. Ashley Fridley then singled to third but both runners would be left stranded.
 
The Pioneers offensive attack then ended in the sixth as Kaylee Drake singled to left with Peyton Wrentz following with by drawing a walk. However, Glenville State would then fall 3-1 against Tiffin University.
 
Celina Maberto picked up the loss on the mound for GSC giving up eight hits while sitting four strikeouts.
 
Game Two:
 
Mimicking the trend, Pelfrey drew a walk to start the first inning with Martinelli following with a single, but two runners would be left stranded as Wayne State scored an early run in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Then the Warriors took advantages of their drawn walks as they would add two more runs to their scoreboard in the third.
 
Karra Smith then reached second off a single to right field with Mackenzie Martinelli scoring her on a double to left. Kaelynn Stenger then advanced Martinelli to third on a groundout and scored off Kaylee Drake's sacrifice fly to center cutting their deficit to just 3-2.
 
Wayne State then scored a run in the fourth pushing their lead back ahead before the Blue and White took their first lead in the fifth. Calla Cooksey reached first on a fielder's choice with Pelfrey following with a walk. Fridley then singled with Karra Smith doubling to right picking up three RBIs. Kaelynn Stenger pushed one more run across the plate to lead 6-4.
 
The Warriors would go on to tie the ball game at six a piece in the bottom half of the fifth before walking off the ball game in the seventh on a single to center.
 
Celina Maberto took the second loss on the mound giving up six hits and two walks, Kaylee Drake added with two hits and four walks.

Glenville State tallied a total of 12 hits with seven runs in the pair of contests as Karra Smith was 3-for-7 scoring three RBIs and four runs.
 
Catherine Pelfrey knocked two hits while drawing three walks and scoring a run.
 
Kaylee Drake and Ashley Fridley also chipped in with two hits as Jessica Williams added one.

Glenville State will open their conference season at West Virginia State on March 20 at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
