Phillippi, W.Va. – Glenville State's
Alexa Smith scored her first career goal at the 102:08-minute mark in double overtime giving the Lady Pioneers (1-2) their first win of the season as they defeated the Alderson Broaddus University Battlers (0-1) on the road, 2-1.
How It Happened
First Half:
Alderson Broaddus struck first at the 15:28-minute mark as Brooke Pomp scored off of a Gwen Sherwood assist as they held a 1-0 lead. GSC would try and tie it up before the half but their eight shots would not find the net as the Blue & White went into halftime trailing, 1-0.
Glenville State tallied eight shots in the first half while Alderson Broaddus had four shots.
Second Half:
In the second half,
Miki Abe would tie the game up at 1-1 at the 56:04-minute mark on an unassisted goal.
Both teams would try to put the finishing touches on the contest as each tallied seven shots in the second half but we would head into overtime tied up at 1-1.
OT:
In the first OT, AB outshot GSC 2-0 but neither shot would find the net as we headed into the second overtime.
OT 2:
In overtime number two, GSC would get just one shot but that would be enough as
Alexa Smith scored on an unassisted goal as the Pioneers walked away with a 2-1 victory.
