How It Happened

Off to a rough beginning, the Fighting Scotts picked up a 5-0 lead to then light a fire for the Pioneers.

Mathew Mangum drew a walk to start the bottom half and moved into scoring position off Tyler Phillips sacrifice bunt. Swinging with a purpose, Tre'von Smith then singled up the middle as Duane Englund picked up the first Pioneer homerun of the season off the leftfield wall, trailing 5-3 after one complete.

In the second, Zach Morris hit a base hit to left with Ryan Rodriguez doubling to left but both would be left stranded as the contest was held 5-3.

Smith singled to left before advancing to third on Englunds double to left. Chase Swain then flyed out to center scoring Smith from third. Shane Talvacchio then hit a big time bombshell over the center field wall to gain their first lead of the ball game, 6-5.

Then in the fifth, the Fighting Scots would tie the contest in Fabian Encalante's attempt to throw the runner out from right field. Though quickly answering back Englund would reach first on another OVU error to then score on a passed ball holding a 7-6 advantage.

In the sixth, Zack Morris then had a short single to left as Ryan Rodriguez forced another OVU error as the two would stand second and third. Tyler Phllips then knotted a big home run dead left field extending their hold 10-6.
