GSC Football Drops Road Contest to the UC Golden Eagles

Charleston, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer (0-2) football team went on the road Saturday and fell to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles (1-0), 45-0.

The last time the Pioneers were held scoreless in a game came back in 2012 when they fell to Chattanooga 35-0.

How It Happened

First Quarter

The Golden Eagles found the endzone early in the first as Guy Myers scored on a 23 yard run as they took a 7-0 lead over GSC. UC then went on to add two more scores in the first quarter as the Pioneers trailed 17-0 after one.

Second Quarter

UC again struck first with a field goal from 10 yards out as they led 20-0. They then added another TD when Tyre McAllister scored on a 45 yard run up the middle as UC held a 26-0 lead.

The Pioneers would try and get a score before the break but could not close the deal as they headed into halftime trailing 26-0.

Third Quarter:

Again the Pioneers would go scoreless in the quarter while UC added 13 points it the quarter as GSC trailed 39-0 heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

Not much scoring in the fourth for either team but UC would get the advantage as they added six more points and held the Pioneers scoreless as GSC fell 45-0 on the road.

Inside The Box Score

UC tallied 424 total yards on 81 plays while GSC had just 67 total yards on 52 plays.

Glenville State finished with just three first downs while the University of Charleston had 25 first downs.

Corbin Pierson went 4-for18 on the day for 24 yards while Tim Heltzel went 4-for-11 for 17 yards.

Bernard Dankyi led the rushing attack with 15 yards on five carriers.

Kyle Clark caught three passes for 24 yards while Seth Arnold had three catches for 10 yards.

Spencer Goolsby had five tackles for the Pioneers while Terry Noel had four and an interception.

For UC, Guy Meyers went 8-for-22 for 104 yards and TD.

Tyre McAllister carried the ball 12 times for 1109 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Marquis McCoy hauled in four passes for 67 yards.

And for the UC defense, Keon Freeman tallied six total tackles.

Glenville State will return home this Saturday, March 27 when they host West Virginia State University at 12 pm from Morris Stadium.
