Charleston, W.Va. – Glenville State (3-12, 0-4 MEC) dropped a pair of road contests against the University of Charleston (11-3, 4-0 MEC) as the Pioneers could not capitalize with runners in scoring position in the MEC matchup.
Game One – Glenville 4, Charleston 9

How It Happened
Game One:
GSC got on the board first swiping
Mackenzie Martinelli off of
Peyton Werntz single to right. Then in the bottom half of the second UC tied the ball game at one all.
In the third, UC added another three runs holding a short 4-1 lead.
Kaelyn Stenger in the top half of the fourth singled to center as UC's shortstop errored putting Werntz on first and advancing Stenger to third.
Skylar Mace would replace Wrentz at first as
Ashton Palmer then hit an RBI single deep in the short stop hole allowing Stenger to score.
Ashley Fridley then hit an RBI single to left as
Catherine Pelfrey and
Ashton Palmer stood second and third scoring Mace closing the Pioneer's gap 3-4. UC responded in the foot of the inning putting up three more runs on three hits spreading their lead 7-4.
Kaylee Drake singled to center field in the fifth with two outs however, the Pioneer's would not be able to produce another run. UC in the bottom half added three runs extending their lead 9-4.
Then in the last crack at the bats,
Karra Smith homered in the Pioneer's final attempt to close the gap, but would fall 9-4 in game one.
Peyton Wrentz picked up the loss on the mound in her 3.1 innings pitched giving up seven hits and five earned runs.
Kaylee Drake came into relief as she gave up just one run in her 2.2 innings.
Game Two:
The Lady Pioneer's started off the game with bats to the ball. Pelfrey and Fridley lead the Pioneer's off both hitting singles with K. Smith following behind reaching first on a UC error. Adding to the rally,
Mackenzie Martinelli came through with an RBI triple scoring Pelfrey, Fridley, and Smith.
UC was quiet in response with no hits as GSC led the game 3-0 after one complete.
Fridley and Smith opened the third with a pair of singles but unable to cash as the Pioneers held their 3-0 lead not for much longer. UC answered with five runs off four hits taking their first lead off the ball game 5-3.
In top of the fourth,
Kayla Letart pinch hit for GSC and added a single and stealing but left stranded. Defensively, The Pioneer's retaliated with three straight outs, still trailing behind 5-3.
Smith doubled to left field as the only hit for GSC in the fifth while UC swiped another extending their lead 6-3. The sixth inning was mute for both GSC and UC.
The Lady Pioneer's last attempt for victory fell short with the final score 6-3.
Ashley Fridley also picked up the loss on the mound for GSC giving up five hits and five runs.
Celina Maberto came into relief facing 13 batters giving up just one two hits and one run

The Pioneers respectfully put up 16 hits for the day as
Karra Smith went 3-for-6 on the day including a homerun and double while scoring three runs.
Ashley Fridley also tallied three hits and three runs as
Kaylee Drake and
Mackenzie Martinelli chipped in with two.
