South Euclid, OH – The Glenville State Pioneers (8-27, 7-19 MEC) not only earned their first series sweep of the season against No. 3 Northern Division leader Notre Dame College (13-21, 12-16 MEC). But also picked up their second run rule victory in 2021.

How It Happened
Game One:
Hitting an RBI single to left, the Falcons pushed the ball game's first run across in the foot of the second. Halyee Stevens looking to quickly answer back, doubled to right opening the third inning but would be left in scoring position.
But then in the fourth and with two outs,
Kaylee Drake doubledvto left as Kayla Letrat would replace her on second and score off
Katelyn Richardson's RBI double to right center.
Ashton Palmer would push a double and advance to third on the throw but held again in scoring position as GSC and NDC were tied 1-1 going into extra innings.
Richardson continuing to hold the hot bat homering over straight center in the top of the eighth for the go ahead run as GSC would win 2-1.
Peyton Wrentz pitched a complete eight shutout innings, giving up just one run and one walk and earning the win on the mound.
Game Two:
The Pioneers would start game two mimicking the end of game one as
Karra Smith homered to straight center putting the Pioneers up 1-0.
In the second, Drake singled right allowing her to score an unearned run off NDC errors pushing GSC up 2-0, but the Falcons quickly redeemed themselves by sweeping a run in the foot of the inning.
Then two RBI singled from
Catherine Pelfrey and Drake would advance the Pioneers to a 4-1 lead in the third and holding that lead until he fifth.
GSC added four runs in the fifth including a two RBI double from
Jessica Williams to push an 8-1 lead.
Pelfrey scored GSC's last run in the series in the sixth as the Pioneers would go on to win 9-1 against Notre Dame College.
Celina Maberto earned GSC's second victory in her full 6.0 shutout innings allowing just four hits.
Inside The Box Score
Glenville State totaled an impressive 23 hits on the day where as Notre Dame only picked up ten.
Karra Smith,
Catherine Pelfrey and
Kaylee Drake all tallied four hits on the day. Smith hit 4-for-4 in game two scoring four runs and an RBI as both Pelfrey and Drake scored two RBIs.
Katelyn Richardson and
Jessica Williams each tallied two hits and two RBIs as Richardson also hit a go ahead homerun in game one.

The end of the tunnel is near for GSC softball as they have three series remaining in the season. The Pioneers will travel to Concord University on Wednesday for a double header starting at 3:00pm
