Concord Grounds Glenville in Final Road Contest

Athens, W. Va. – Glenville State (8-29, 7-21) dropped their final pair of away contest to Concord University (15-19, 15-13 MEC) as the GSC was unable to produce runs, leaving 12 Pioneers on base in the pair.

How It Happened
 
 Game One:
 
Holding a scoreless contest until the fourth, Peyton Wrentz opened the Pioneer's offensive attack in the third with a single through the left side with Ashley Fridley following behind with another single. However, this would be two ten Pioneers left on base in game one.
 
Mackenzie Martinelli would double in the fourth but left stranded at third as CU would take advantage and score three runs. In the bottom half and another two runs in the fifth.
 
The Blue and White would cross one in the sixth as Martinelli walked and scored off CU's fielding error.
 
In the seventh, the Pioneers would load the bases with Martinelli on first, Catherine Pelfrey on second and Ashton Palmer on third. However, Glenville State could not produce as they fell 5-1.
 
Peyton Wrentz gave up just five hits in her 4.0 innings pitched with two strikeouts but took the loss on the mound. Kaylee Drake picked up three strikeouts while scoring two runs.
 
Game Two:
 
Singling to center and advancing to third would be Ashley Fridley for GSC but held in scoring position in the top half of the first as CU capitalized and scored one.
 
From there, the Mountain Lions scored an additional four runs in the second as they led 5-0.
 
Mackenzie Martinelli would single to right in the fourth with Katelyn Richardson doubling to center in the sixth but GSC would fall 8-0 after six complete innings.
 
Celina Maberto took the loss on the mound as both her and Peyton Wrentz would allow for 13 hits in game two.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
Glenville State totaled 11 hits on the day where Concord tallied 24 and unable to capitalize, the Pioneers left 12 runners on base.
 
Mackenzie Martinelli led the pack with three hits, a walk and scored a run.
 
Ashton Palmer and Ashley Fridley each had two hits as Catherine Pelfrey, Peyton Wrentz and Kaelyn Stenger each chipped in with one hit.

The Pioneers will host Davis & Elkins College on Friday April 30th with West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday for Senior Day festivities.
