Timely Hits, Walk-off Wins & Series Sweeps

Glenville, W.Va.- Glenville State Pioneers (10-29, 9-21 MEC) earned their second series sweep in today's double header against Davis & Elkins College (11-19, 11-19 MEC).
 
With two exciting matchups, the Pioneers held held the lead in the entirety of game one. But in game two, GSC won in walk off fashion after trailing 5-2 going into the seventh with a double to the center field wall from Catherine Pelfrey scoring Mackenzie Martinelli from second.

How It Happened
 
Game One:
 
Jessica Williams opened the Pioneer's offensive attack with a shot over the left field wall taking an early 1-0 lead in the second.
 
Kaylee Drake then hit an RBI single in the third scoring Karra Smith who opened the inning with a double in the gap between left-center.
 
However, D&E then hit a homerun to bring the Senators within one in the fourth.
 
In the sixth, Katelyn Richardson opened the inning by drawing a walk and stealing second. Haylee Stevens then traded places with her, hitting a double to left scoring Richardson extending the Pioneers lead 3-1.
 
Kaylee Drake earned her first win on the mound as she gave up just four hits.
 
Game Two:
 
The Senators scored first in the third inning and then added another three runs in the fifth holding a 4-0 lead over the Pioneers.
 
In the sixth, D&E would swipe another run before the Pioneers would make the contest more interesting. In the foot of the inning, Ashton Palmer singled and moved to third on a single to right field hit by Catherine Pelfrey.  
 
Kaylee Drake then hit a two run RBI double to left, scoring both Palmer and Pelfrey to bring the Pioneers within three at 5-2.
 
Then in the seventh, Jessica Williams opened with an infield single and replaced at first by Lauren Kisner. Haylee Stevens put pressure on the Senator's defense with a blooper that would fall in between the second baseman and right fielder. With Kisner on third and Stevens on second, Ashley Fridley forced a D&E error scoring one.
 
Then to making a great comeback, Mackenzie Martinelli hit a two run RBI tying the ball game at five all as Catherine Pelfrey hit a walk off double to end the ball game 6-5!
 
Peyton Wrentz earned her fifth win on the mound as she struck out three Senators in her full 7.0 innings pitched.

Glenville State tallied 18 hits on the day scoring nine runs on the day where as Davis & Elkins totaled 14 hits.
 
Jessica Williams led the Pioneer pack hitting 4-for-6 with a home run with Catherine Pelfrey hitting 3-for-6 with a winning RBI and run scored.  
 
Kaylee Drake tallied three RBIs with Mackenzie Martinelli finishing with two as they both had two hits in the double header.
 
Coming Up
 
Glenville State will return to the complex tomorrow afternoon as they face off against West Virginia Wesleyan College at 1 & 3:00pm on Senior Day. Seniors will be honored at 12:45 pm.
