Glenville, W.Va. – Playing two close games until the midst of each and unable to hold on for the ride, the Glenville State Pioneers (4-19, 1-11 MEC) fell to West Virginia State Yellow Jackets (12-6, 9-1 MEC) in their double header matchup.

How It Happened
Game One:
Catherine Pelfrey tapered the lone hit in the first for GSC as WVSU rallied up four runs.
GSC continued to warm up the bats while
Kaylee Drake started off the second with a single shot to the right side with
Kaelyn Stenger following behind with a single shot to the left side swiping Drake to second Pioneer's were not able to get on the board.
West Virginia State answered with three more runs making it 7-0 WVSU after the second.
The Pioneer's got the ball rolling in the third while
Ashley Fridley got hot sending the ball to right field earning a single as well as a stolen base.
Karra Smith followed behind with a ground ball to the left side and was handled by West Virginia State's defense, Smith pushed Fridley to third base.
Mackenzie Martinelli put GSC on the board with a laser to the left side sending Fridley home.
Taylor Long,
Catherine Pelfrey, and
Mackenzie Martinelli each picked up a hit in the fourth but GSC was unable to pull in any runs while WVSU tallied another three runs giving them a 10-1 lead.
While GSC's last attempt for redemption was unsuccessful, the Lady Pioneer's gave their run with Stenger drawing a walk with Palmer coming through behind advancing Stenger to second as she sent a rocket to the right side.
Game Two:
After a quiet start to the ballgame,
Haylee Stevens sent a rocket to center landing herself on second base with
Taylor Long following behind advancing Stevens in sacrifice fashion in the bottom of the third.
After four scoreless innings, WVSU got some momentum going while scoring four runs off of six hits.
Jessica Williams reached on by WVSU's second baseman's error while
Haley Smith entered the game to pinch run for Williams. Stevens came up behind Smith earning a single; Stevens advanced on an error by centerfield as Smith would be sent home making the scoreboard 6-1 WVSU after five innings played.
Glenville did their job defensively as all three WVSU batters were shut down by GSC's infield.
Never laying down, the Lady Pioneer's got the bats going once again in the bottom of the sixth with
Ashley Fridley slinging a single to right field with
Kaelyn Stenger following behind with a single to the left side.
Karra Smith came up and reached on a fielder's choice while Fridley was out on the play.
With Smith on second and Stenger on third
Kaylee Drake made action happen at the plate by reaching by error while Smith moved to third and Stenger home.
WVSU kept putting it on by adding two additional runs in the top of the seventh while GSC's final crack at the bats was quiet making the final 8-2 WVSU.

Haylee Stevens made a statement at the plate going 3-5 with a double and RBI.
Kaylee Drake and
Kaelyn Stenger each had an RBI.
Karra Smith had two hits for the day.

Kaylee Drake both gained losses on the mound today as Maberto gave up just six hits with Drake tallying four strikeouts
