Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Acrobatics & Tumbling (2-3) team fell to the West Liberty Hilltoppers (4-2) on Friday morning in the Mountain East Conference semifinals, 247.840 to 249.885.
How It Happened
WLU would edge out GSC in the compulsory event 36.275 to 34.850. The Hilltoppers took three-of-the-four events. The Pioneers however would tie the Hilltoppers in the toss heat as both teams scored a 9.550.
In the acro event, GSC took Heat 3 (7 element) 9.675 to 9.500 but it wasn't enough as WLU won the other two heats and took the event by a final of 28.825 to 26.500.
The same thing would happen in the pyramid event. GSC took heat 3 (open), 9.800 to 9.750 but West Liberty took heat 1 (inversion) and heat 2 (synchronized) as they took the pyramid event slightly, 29.20 to 28.050.
At the intermission, WLU led GSC 94.300 to 89.400.
Coming out of the break, GSC took heat 2 and tied heat one in the toss event. The Pioneers tied heat 1 (450 salt) 8.825 to 8.825. The Pioneers then took heat 2 (synchronized) 8.650 to 8.475. But WLU took the third and final heat 3 (open) 8.950 to 8.325 as they took the toss event from GSC, 26.25 to 25.80.
Glenville State took one heat in the tumbling event from the Hilltoppers. The Pioneers scored an 8.675 to WLU's 8.500 in the 6 element pass. But West Liberty took the other five heats as they took the tumbling event, 51.025 to 47.050 as we headed into the team event.
The Pioneers would not give up in the team event and came out strong and went on to win the event outscoring the Hilltoppers, 85.590 to 78.310 but it wasn't enough as GSC fell by just over two points, 249.885 to 247.840.
Glenville State's season now comes to an end. They will compete in MEC Individual Events, Glenville State qualified in the 450 salto toss, trio tumbling, and in the six-element tumbling. The Individual event will take place tomorrow (Saturday, April 10) at 11 am.
