Glenville State Concludes Season At MEC Track & Field Championships

Glenville, W.Va. –  After successfully hosting the 2021 MEC track & Field Championship, the Glenville State Women's team finished tied for sixth with 54 points as the Men's team placed third, scoring 95 points.

How it Happened

Women's:

To start the day, the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan took the 4x100 with a new MEC meet record time of 47.16 while Wheeling came in second with a time of 47.68.

UC's Lily Dowdell then took the 1500 meter run with a time 0f 4:55.51.

The Cardinals captured another first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles as Isha Sesay crossed the finish line first with a 14.89.  

Eve Hine of the University of Charleston took the 400 with a new MEC meet record time of 56.89 while WVWC's Caylee Painter placed second with a 57.96.

Faith Gandy then took the 100 for the Bobcats with a time of 12.10 while GSC's Ny'Tierra Hobbs took second.

D&E's Samantha Kirk is your champion in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 63.55 while Lauren Leaman finished second.

Glenville State's very own Angela Ejimofo and Ny'Tierra Hobbs claimed the second and third place finish with times of 25.80 and 25.98 in the 200m dash. WVWC's Faith Gandy earned the top spot with a 25.17 first place finish in the race.

In the 5000m race, UC's Mercy Jepleting won with a time of 18:10.24.

Wesleyan took the final event finishing the 4x400 with a time of 4:00.01 as GSC took the fifth spot with a time of 4:13.31.

Men's:

The Cardinals won the 4x100 on the men side as they set a new MEC meet record with a 41.44 while WVWC was a close second with a 41.68.

In the 1500, Jason Weitzel of Concord won the event while WLU's Danah Philips took second place, and UC's Matthew Forrester finished third. All three of them broke the previous MEC record, but Weitzel had the fastest time with a 3:53.82.

UC's Dezmon Bradshaw won the 110 meter hurdles with a 14.92 time while Wheeling's Julian Griffin took second with a time of 14.94.

Frostburg State got a big win in the 400 as Nicholas Richardson took the race with a time of 48.63.

Tanner Faulkiner of WVWC won the 100 with a 10.84 while D&E's Nokia Masengu placed second.

GSC's Shawn Arthur took his second MEC Championship, this time winning the 400 hurdles while also setting a new MEC meet record of 52.71. Wheeling's Moses Koroma took second with a 53.29 which was also an NCAA provisional mark.

UC's Jack Mastandrea and Concord's Jason Weitzel bot set new MEC Meet records taking the first and second place finish in the 5000m run with times of 14:37.13 and 14:50.80.
Finally, in the 4x400m relay, Glenville State finished fifth with a time of 3:21.12 behind UC who set a new MEC Meet record with a time of 3:17.15.
