MONIQUE JOHNSON – Monique Johnson transferred to Glenville after a redshirt season at Marshall, and became an immediate star in the WVIAC. It would be difficult to note anyone with a quicker first step, or who got to the basket quicker than Johnson during that era in the league.
Playing with several GSC Hall of Famers such as Nikki Cale, Kim Creel, Tammy Pence, and Niki Randolph, Johnson played on some historic Lady Pioneer teams. She was recruited by Coach Tim Carney, and closed her career under Coach Russ Shepherd.
Glenville's 1989 team won the program's first league title, and posted another great season in 1990. Johnson teamed with Pence to form the greatest one-two scoring punch in GSC history up to that point. Johnson averaged 24.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game as a senior. The 1989 squad advanced to the Second Round of the NAIA National Tournament.
Johnson, a native of Huntington, West Virginia, closed her GSC career with 1,731 career points, 684 rebounds, 271 assists, and 152 steals.
Johnson now works in law enforcement in Charlotte, North Carolina.
