Williams Jr. Leads Pioneers to Win Over Davis & Elkins

GLENVILLE – Coach Justin Caldwell's Glenville State squad got back on the winning track Wednesday night, powering to a 101-81 victory over visiting Davis & Elkins at the Waco Center. GSC connected on eight first half three-pointers, producing a strong first half that led to the win.
 
Glenville gained control early, mounting a 20-7 run that pushed a tight 9-8 lead into a strong 29-15 Pioneer advantage. D&E responded by scoring the next 13 points, cutting the margin to 29-28, but GSC punched back, countering with a 20-8 run to close the half, staking a 49-36 lead at intermission.
 
GSC improves to 6-6 overall, and 3-5 in the Mountain East. Davis & Elkins falls to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the MEC.
 
Zane DeSouza opened the second half with a three, extending the lead to 52-36. D&E would battle back with some short surges, but Glenville responded by continuing their hot-shooting evening. GSC would push the lead to 20 and cruise through the game's latter stages.
 
John Williams JR. delivered an impressive triple-double to lead the Pioneers, scoring 23 points, dishing out 14 assists and 10 rebounds. Adrian Scarborough produced a strong double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.  Luke LeRose contributed a strong line with 17 points and five assists, with Dajon Congleton and Gus Eddy each registering 14 points.
 
Glenville won the team rebounding battle 44-39, while shooting 48.1% from the field (39-of-81). GSC hit on 15 three-pointers, led by five from LeRose and four from Eddy.
 
D&E was led y Evan Busby with 21 points.
 
Glenville continues Mountain East play on Saturday, traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan to face the Bobcats. Tip-off is set for 4:00 in the Rockefeller Center.
