GLENVILLE – New minted as the nation's #1 team, Glenville's Lady Pioneers return home Wednesday night, hosting Alderson-Broaddus. GSC ascended to the top spot in Tuesday's release of the WBCA National Poll. GSC is now 16-0 overall, and 11-0 in the MEC.
Coach Kim Stephens' squad leads the nation in scoring at 101.0 points per game, and in scoring margin at 38.3 ppg. They are also #1 in steals at 16.1, and in turnovers forced at 29.0 per game.
GSC sports the #2 and #3 scorers in the MEC in Re'Shawna Stone (18.0) and Zakiyah Winfield (17.9). They have three players averaging over six rebounds per game; Winfield (6.4), Abby Stoller (6.2), and Taychaun Hubbard (6.2). Stone and Mashayla Cecil have both connected on 38 three-point field goals, while teammate Vendela Danielsson has hit 27.
Alderson-Broaddus enters the game 7-7 overall and 5-6 in the Mountain East Conference. The Battlers' balanced scoring attack is led by Hannah Taylor (13.0), Iyahanna Williams (12.9), and Nyshae' Weaver (12.9). Weaver is third in the league in free throw percentage at 86.0.%
