GLENVILLE – Glenville State's Pioneers got back on track Wednesday night, holding off Alderson-Broaddus 89-81 at the Waco Center. Coach Justin Caldwell's squad utilized a strong start to post the wire-to-wire victory.
GSC had the hot hand early, jumping out to an immediate 11-0 lead in the early minutes. They rode that wave of momentum over the next five minutes, climbing to leads of 22-6 and 25-8. The Battlers would chip away some in the remainder of the half, as the Pioneers led at the break 50-37.
Alderson Broaddus cut the margin to six points at 61-55 at the 14:24 mark, but GSC responded quickly, scoring the next six points get re-establish a double-digit lead. The Battlers would get no closer than eight the rest of the way.
John Williams Jr. put up some solid numbers again to lead GSC. The league's leading scorer recorded a game-high 26 points, and added eight rebounds and four assists. Adrian Scarborough recorded 21 points and matched Williams totals of eight rebounds and four assists. Tommy Williams contributed 14 points and Zane DeSouza nine. Luke LeRose played a strong floor game with a team-high four steals and matched the team leaders with four assists. He also scored seven points.
GSC was in the plus column shooting, hitting on 33-of-63 shots from the field 53.3%. They held a slight advantage on the boards at 31-29. A-B would commit 19 turnovers on the evening, a strong portion of which came in Glenville's early game power surge.
K.J. Walker and John Grayson led the Battler scoring with 18 points each. Walker also posted a team-high six rebounds.
Glenville improves to 7-9 overall, 408 in the Mountain East Conference. A-B fall to 8-8, 5-7 in the league.
GSC is back on the road Saturday, traveling to face Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. Tip-off is set for 4:00.
