Lady Pioneers Face Bobcats and Falcons of Fairmont State

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville's State's Women's Volleyball is set for two matches this week. The Lady Pioneers will host the Bobcats of Frostburg State Tuesday night and travel up I-79 to Fairmont State Friday night. 

A Look at the Bobcats

Frostburg State enters Tuesday's contest with a (14-9) overall record and (2-5) in Mountain East Conference play. The Bobcats are coming off a 3-1 loss to Davis and Elkins College and are coached by Kylie Heyne. Heyne enters her third season with the program. Under Heyne's direction, the Bobcats have already passed last season's win total of nine matches. As a team, Frostburg is third in the MEC in blocks producing 167.5 blocks. A.J Thompson and Mckaily Thomson-Moran led the team blocks this season. Defensively, Fiona Gonzalez Medina has been solid for the Bobcats as well. Medina this season has produced a team-high 309 digs which is fifth in the MEC. Junior outside hitter Beverly Bruan leads Frostburg in kills with 320. Hayley Delor has accounted for 493 assists this season placing her fifth in the conference. 

A Look at the Falcons

Fairmont State enters the match with a (20-2) overall record and (6-1) in the MEC. The Falcons are coming off a win over West Virginia Wesleyan 3-0. Their only loss in conference play has come against north division leaders Wheeling University. Travis Hinkle enters his second year with Fairmont State but has been in the MEC for five seasons. As a team, the Falcons are averaging the third most kills per set in the conference. Nyla Birch has produced a team-high in kills with 208 followed by Keara Lewis with 203. Sophomore setter Lauren Albrecht has passed 412 balls this season. Defensively, Bryce Knapp leads the team in digs this season with 371 averaging 4.88 digs per set. Both Emma Ludwig and Amelia Moore have produced over 85 blocks during the 2022 campaign. 

The Lady Pioneers

Glenville enters this week with a (13-10) overall record and (2-5) in conference play. The Lady Pioneers are coming off a loss to MEC North Division leaders Wheeling University. Coach Kevin John's squad this week can continue to pick up some firsts for the Pioneers. Since Joining the league the Pioneers have not defeated the Bobcats. The Lady Pioneers continued to be dominant serving. As a team, Glenville ranks first in the conference in team service aces and aces per set. Katarzyna Niderla and Helín Halden lead the Pioneers in these categories. Niderla has produced 46 aces this season with Halden behind her with 36. Katarzyna also leads the Lady Pioneers in kills with 267. Junior Sarah Grainger has accounted for 366 assists during the 2022 campaign. Defensively Lindsay Winkler has produced a team-high in digs this season with 286. True Freshman Nalaina Funk has started her Glenville State career making an impact with 60 blocks.
