GSU Women’s Soccer Hosts West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling University

Glenville State's Women's Soccer is back in action at Morris Stadium this week continuing the conference portion of their schedule. The Lady Pioneers will host the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College this Thursday at 7:00 PM and the Cardinals of Wheeling University Sunday at 12:00 PM. This will be the second matchup between the Pioneers and West Virginia Wesleyan.

A Look at the Bobcats

West Virginia Wesleyan enters the match with a (3-8-1) overall record and (3-6-1) in the Mountain East Conference. The Bobcats are coached by Richard Owens who enters his fifth season with the program. Ava Badallo leads the team in goals this season with three followed by Sophomore Kameron Bonneau with two. Midfielder Hannah Murphy has produced two assists for the Bobcats during the 2022 campaign. In goal for West Virginia Wesleyan, this has been Ally Moore. Moore has started every game for the Bobcats and has made 64 saves.

A Look at the Cardinals

The Cardinals face Glenville for the first time this season. Since the creation of the Lady Pioneers program, Wheeling is 1-2 all-time in the series. Wheeling is coached by Emmanuel Awotula whole enters his first season with the Cardinals. Awotula is coming from Lincoln University where he quickly turned around their program. Coach Awotula's squad enters the match with a (4-7-1) record overall and (2-4-1) in MEC Play. The Cardinals' top goal scorer this season has been Kenadee Burgoyne with five goals. Sophomore Mary DiFonzo and Braedyn Porter are close behind with four goals during the 2022 campaign. DiFonzo has been a complete offensive threat producing four assists as well. Defensively, Mikayla Yarwood has been the starting goalkeeper for Wheeling. Yarwood this season has produced 78 saves with a 78% save percentage.  

The Lady Pioneers

Glenville enters the week coming off a 4-2 loss to Davis and Elkins. Tessa Cinotti, Tori Cutright, and Merel Smets have all scored goals for the Lady Pioneers this season. Along with scoring a goal for Glenville, Cinotti has produced an assist for the Pioneers. Freshman Hannah Hill has been a regular in Glenville's starting eleven. As a Freshman, Hill has been on the pitch for 888 minutes. In goal for Lady Pioneers has been Junior Mikayla Brown. So far this season Brown has made 65 saves this season. Jordyn Dansby-Ross has been a focal point to the Pioneers' defending line.
