Glenville, W.Va. -Glenville State Women's Volleyball team is back in action this week kicking off four consecutive home Mountain East Conference matches. The Lady Pioneers host the Senators of Daivs and Elkins College, Notre Dame College, and Alderson Broaddus University. The Pioneers are on pace to make the Mountain East Conference Tournament for the first time.
A Look at The Senators
Davis & Elkins enters Tuesday's match with a (13-8) record overall and (6-3) in the MEC. D&E is coming off a 3-0 victory over Alderson Broaddus. The Pioneers have already faced the Senators this season-opening Conference play. D&E won the match 3-1 back in September. The Senators are coached by Jordan Wills who enters his third season with the program. Macie Magallon leads the team in kills with 305 followed by Miria Isabel Butruce Candiota with 211. Magallon currently sits second in the conference in kills. Brilane Manchego has accounted for 773 assists which is third in the MEC. Defensively, the Senators are led by Sophomore Clara Caralt and Senior Brianna Portley. So far this season Caralt has produced 304 digs. Portley has a team-high in blocks with 57.
A Look at The Falcons
The Falcons of Notre Dame College enter Friday's match with a (10-15) overall record and (4-5) in the conference. NDC is coming off a 3-0 win over the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Notre Dame College is coached by Riley Coleman and Kathleen Egan. Both enter their first season as head coaches. Senior Kaye Dregalla leads the team in kills with 233 followed by Carli Derda with 149. Jayme Zoeckler has produced 632 assists during the 2022 campaign which is fourth in the MEC. Defensively Kiely Kalina, Ryleigh Ronald, and Carli Derda have been solid this season. Kalina leads the team in digs with 419 ranking her second in the conference. Ronald has accounted for 78 blocks with Dedra close behind with 73.
A Look at The Battlers
Alderson Broaddus enters Saturday's match with a (6-13) overall record and (0-9) in the conference. The Battlers are coming off a defeat to Davis and Elkins College 3-0. AB is coached by first-year head coach Julia Erickson. Erickson brings experience from the Junior College level and club level. Jocie Fisher leads the Battlers in kills this season with 218. Junior Kaitlyn Jagger has passed 446 balls during the 2022 campaign. Defensively, Sophomore Jordan Grimes has produced a team-high 161digs followed by Jagger with 148. Kayleigh Lance and Zoey Kiefer both have created 26 blocks this season.
The Lady Pioneers
Glenville is coming off a 3-0 defeat to Fairmont State. The Lady Pioneers are looking to get their first win over Notre Dame in five years. The Pioneers enter this week with a (14-11) overall record and (3-6) in the MEC. As a team, Glenville is ranked second in the nation in total service aces. Rita Kelly with 176. Setter Sarah Gringer has accounted for 435 assists during the 2022 campaign. Niderla also has a team-high in service aces with 50. Helín Halden is close behind with 39 aces this season. Defensively,
Lindsay Winkler has produced a team-high in digs with 323 followed by
Zoe Schmidt with 199.
Katarzyna Niderla has also been solid on the defensive side as well. Niderla has produced 67 blocks this season. Freshman
Nalaina Funk has had a strong start to her GSU career with 63 blocks.
