The Lady Pioneers Fall 3-0 to Davis and Elkins College

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Volleyball team kicks off their four-game home stretch with a loss. The Lady Pioneers fell to the Davis and Elkins Senators 3-0 but battled in every set. The Pioneers committed 11 more errors than the Senators in tonight's match.

In the first set, Glenville trailed early to Davis and Elkins 8-3. An attack error by the Senators would spark five straight points by the Pioneers. However, D&E regained their early lead halfway through the frame. Once again the Lady Pioneers battled back only trailing by one at the 15-14 mark. A kill by Freshman Rita Kelly started Glenville's 6-1 run. With the Senators taking another six-point lead late, it would prove to be too much for the Pioneers dropping the set 25-18.

The Lady Pioneers in the second frame built up a six-point lead halfway through the set. While the Pioneers did not produce long runs, consecutive short stretches of three to two points built their lead. After trailing the Senators would put together a dominant stretch to take the lead late 21-17. During this time D&E scored on 11 of the next twelve points taking advantage of errors made by the Lady Pioneers. Glenville would bring the stanza back to within three points twice. However, the Senators late run propelled them to take the second set 25-20.

Both teams battled throughout the third and final set. There would be a total of five lead changes until both squads were tied 10-10. D&E's 5-1 run by gave them enough momentum to take the lead 15-11. A kill by Nalaina helped Glenville produce a run of their own to tie the set 16-16. Once again the Senators created a late run taking a five-point lead. The Lady Pioneers would battle back to lead the frame at the 24-23 mark. Davis and Elkins with a kill by Brillane Manchego started a three-point run to close the set 26-24 winning the match for the Senators.

Helín Halden, Rita Kelly, and Katarzyna Niderla all lead the Pioneers with seven kills. Setter Sarah Grainger accounted for 24 assists in tonight's match. Sophie Shifferly, Lindsay Winkler, and Sarah Grainger all produced a team-high in digs with eight.
