GSU Women’s Soccer falls to the Hilltoppers of West Liberty 2-0

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's soccer team fell on the road to West Liberty 2-0 at the West Family Complex. The Hilltoppers would take four more corner kicks than the Lady Pioneers.

The Pioneers opened the match with a shot on goal by Mackenzie Hendricks. Glenville's best chance of the half happened from a cross by Alexa Smith. The Hilltopper's defender blocked the Pioneer's cross but it would hit the crossbar. If the ball had dropped an inch lower the Lady Pioneers could have taken the early lead. Glenville would keep the shot difference close in the first half only getting outshot by one. In the 38th minute of the half, West Liberty produced a chance to take the lead. However, Isabella Aperfine's shot would be wide left.

Both teams battled throughout the second half of the match. In the first 30 minutes of the half, Glenville was not able to create any shots. The Hilltoppers would take advantage of the Pioneers' offensive drought scoring two goals. In the 65th minute, West Liberty's Maya Taggert scored from a pass by Isabella Bankovich. Rileigh Gualtiere would score the second goal for the Hilltoppers. In the last two minutes, the Lady Pioneers created two more chances but were unsuccessful.

A total of six Pioneers played the entire match for Glenville. Tori Cutright lead the Lady Pioneers in shots with three followed by Merel Smets and Alyssa West with two. Goalkeeper Mikayla Brown made five saves in tonight's match.
