Lady Pioneers Fall in Last MEC Road Contest 2-1

Philippi, W.Va - Glenville State's Women's Soccer team fell 2-1 to the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus in their last Mountain East Conference road match. The Lady Pioneers finished the contest with three more saves than AB. The Pioneers are now (0-17) heading into Sunday's match.

Tonight's match started as a battle until the end of the first half. Both teams created a fair amount of shots in the first half. Glenville had six shots and Alderson Broaddus only had more than the Pioneers. In the first 15 minutes, the Battlers created 4 chances with two of them on goal. The Lady Pioneers answered the AB's early charge producing three shots in a four-minute span. Tori Cutright, Alexa Smith, and Alyssa West all created chances for Glenville. In the 42nd minute, the Battlers would find the back of the net. Iris Jimenez took advantage of a miscue made by the Lady Pioneers.

In the early minutes of the second half, Diana Foero extended AB's lead to 2-0. Alyssa West committed a foul inside the box which lead to a penalty kick where the Battlers scored. Once again the Lady Pioneers responded to Alderson Broaddus's attack. Destiny Navarrete scored in the 55th minute from a pass by Ivy White making it 2-1. Navarrete's goal would be her first as a Pioneer and White's assist was her third of the season. Glenville desperately tried to score the equalizing goal but could not find the back of the net. 

Oluwatobi Jonna Oladapo, Tori Cutright, and Jordy Dansby-Ross played the entire match for the Lady Pioneers. Tori Cutright lead the team in shots and shots on goal with four. Alyssa West accounted for three shots. Mikayla Brown started and played the entire match in goal for Glenville. Brown finished the contest with a match-high 10 saves.

The Pioneers are back in action Sunday at 2:00 PM to close out the 2022 season.
