Pioneer Women’s Soccer Enters Final Week of the Season

Glenville, W.Va.- Glenville State's Women's Soccer team closes out the 2022 season this week with two matches. The Pioneers Travel to Alderson Broaddus University Wednesday night and host the Mountian Lions of Concord University Sunday afternoon. Glenville is 3-0 all-time versus the Batlers of Alderson Broaddus.

A Look at the Battlers

Alderson Broaddus enters the match with a (0-12-3) overall record and (0-12-2) in the Mountian East Conference. The Battlers are coached by Jaron Hulme who enters his fifth season with the program. As a team, AB has scored two more goals than the Pioneers this season. Morgan Griffith has been the Battler's best offensive player so far this season. During the 2022 campaign, she has accounted for two goals and an assist. Three other AB players join Griffith in scoring two goals, Jaqueline Garcia, Alieza Vargas Deason, and Diana Forero. In goal for Alderson Broaddus is Sophomore Olivia Kqira. Kqira has started every match in goal for the Battlers this season and has made 138 saves.

A Look at the Mountain Lions

Concord enters Sunday's match with an overall record of (11-4-1) and (9-4-1) in the league. This will be the second matchup between the Mountain Lions and the Lady Pioneers. Concord defeated the Pioneers 3-0 back in September. The Mountian Lions are coached by 7th-year Head Coach Luke Duffy. During the 2022 campaign, Coach Duffy's squad has outscored opponents 49-19. Both Leah Foster and Jayme Millard have scored ten goals and accounted for four assists this season. Senior Courtney Smith leads the team in assists with ten. Leah Marsh has been in goal for Concord most of the season. Marsh has started 15 matches and has produced 69 saves during the 2022 campaign.

A Look at Your Pioneers

The Lady Pioneers enter the final week of the season with a (0-16) record overall and (0-14) in the MEC. Merel Smets has matched her goal total from last season and leads the Pioneers in goals this season. Her four goals this season has made her the all-time leading goal scorer in GSU history. Sophomore Tori Cutright has also matched her Freshman goal total with two this season. Ivy White leads the Lady Pioneers in assists so far during the 2022 campaign. Lyric Allen and Freshman Alyssa West all have produced an assist. Goalkeeper Mikayla Brown has made the most starts this season with 11. Brown has accounted for 80 saves this season. Transfer Leah Williams has also started in goal for the Lady Pioneers making 16 saves.
