Pioneers Travel South to face the University of Charleston

Glenville, W.Va - Glenville State is set to travel this Saturday to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. The Pioneers enter this weekend's contest with a (3-2) record overall and (2-2) in the Mountian East Conference. Glenville has not defeated the Golden Eagles since the 2016 season. 

Charleston (2-3, 2-2 MEC) is coming off a 49-24 loss to the 16th-ranked Notre Dame College. UC is coached by Quinn Sanders who enters his first season as head coach. Saunders has been with the program since 2015 starting as the Wide Receiver's coach. Offensively, the Golden Eagles average 33.4 points per game. The passing attack led by Davis Black is ranked third in the MEC producing 248.8 yards per game. UC's rushing game is led by Chavon Wright. As a team Charleston, this season is averaging 129 rushing yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Golden Eagles' pass defense has been solid this season. Opposing teams are only averaging 212 yards in the air. Dekavis Preston leads the team in pass breakups with 10 followed by Roderick Webb with seven. Senior Nirion Washington has a team-high in interceptions this season with two.

Glenville enters Saturday's contest coming off a historic win over the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. The Pioneers broke the MEC and school record for most interceptions in a game along with beating West Liberty for the first time since 2018. Glenville's pass defense has been dependable during the 2022 campaign producing 11 interceptions. Sean Bowers, Dane Lynch Jr., and Noah McBride led the Pioneers with two interceptions. Through five games Seth Arnold once again leads Glenville in tackles with 42. Offensively the Pioneers this season lead the conference in total offense. Glenville's passing game is led by Transfer quarterback Jeff Miller. So far this season Miller has passed for 1,220 yards, 12 touchdowns, and is averaging 244 yards per game. Javian Bellamy and Bonner Orion have been a crucial part of Glenville's passing attack at the wide receiver position.
