Box Score WHEELING – Glenville State's Volleyball team was on the road Saturday afternoon, battling national power Wheeling on their home court at the McDonough Center. The Cardinals prevailed in straight sets; 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.
Coach
Keven John's squad kept the first set close throughout and late in the frame, trailed only 20-18 and had serve. But the Cardinals won the point, and scored the final five points to take the set. They also closed strong in the second set in similar fashion.
Glenville rallied in the third set to keep the score close. It was 16-14, 17-15, and 19-17 at different points late in the set. Despite the strong effort from GSU, the Cardinals were able to close the match.
Lauryn O'Lenic led the Lady Pioneers with 11 kills, followed by Katarzyna Nidela with 10 and
Rita Kelly with eight. Niderla recorded a .286 hittinbg percentage on the afternoon. Setter Sarah Grainger registered a total of 30 assists in the contest.
Lindsay Winkler tallied a team-high 17 digs, followed by
Kylie Williams with 13. Niderla also delivered a pair of service aces.
Wheeling improves to 14-6 overall, and a perfect 7-0 in the Mountain East Conference under legendary head coach Christy Benner. Glenville falls to 13-10 overall, and 2-5 in the league.
Glenville returns home on Tuesday night, hosting Frostburg State in the Waco Center.
