GSU Men’s Basketball Drops MEC Contest to The Golden Eagles 99-83

Charleston, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball fell on the road to the University of Charleston in Mountain East Conference play 99-83. The Pioneers shot 47% from the field and 33% from three which is the best percentages so far this season. Glenville committed three more turnovers than the Golden Eagles.

Glenville State opened up the game on a 10-2 run hitting all five of their first five shots. Trevor Chandler, Jaelin Johnson, De'Ante Petree, and Jay Scott all made their first start as a Pioneer. Before heading into the first media timeout Charleston went on a streak of their own tying it at 10-10.

Coming out of the media timeout both teams started trade buckets making it difficult to gain momentum.  The Golden Eagles started to pull away at the 7:03 mark gaining a nine-point advantage. Glenville kept it within a couple of possessions until UC's Eddie Colbert III caught fire accounting for eight points in a span of less than two minutes. Colbert II led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 19 points.

Riding the momentum gained from the first half, Charleston continued to fire on all cylinders. Before the under-15 media timeout, the Golden Eagles' advantage grew to 23 points. The Pioneers Jordan "Turbo" Smith caught fire in the remainder of the second half. Smith produced 21 points just in the final half of the game.

Glenville State in the last five minutes went on a 19-10 run. However, the Pioneers would run out of time.

Jordan "Turbo" Smith led Glenville State in scoring with 25 points followed by Freddie Word with 11. Transfers Trevor Chandler and Jacquez Yow both finished in double-figures with ten points. Word accounted for eight rebounds for the Pioneers and led GSU in assists with five.
