Glenville State Men’s Basketball Defeats Penn State Mont Alto 82-38

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball team picked up their second win of the season over the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto 82-38. The Pioneers held Penn State Mont Alto in the second half just to 16 points. As a team, GSU shot 41.8% from the field and out rebound the Nittany Lions 53-36.

Both offenses started out the first five minutes sluggish only combing for 15 points. Coming out of the first media timeout Penn State Mont Alto kept it within two points. A three and a layup by the Nittany Lion's Caleb Eckert made it a one possession game.

At the ten-minute mark, the Pioneers snapped their cold streak with help from Jaelin Johnson and Isaac Lane. Johnson poked the ball free from Penn State Mount Alto leading to a fast-break layup. Glenville's next three shots all come from inside the paint extending the lead to 11.

In the remaining minutes of the first half, the Pioneers would have the advantage 35-18. Jamarvious Jones hitting two threes in transition helped Glenville grow their lead. The Nittany Lions scoring consecutive buckets dug into GSU's lead. Before the end of the half, a layup by Harrison Eghan put the Pioneers up by 15.

As a team in the second half, Glenville shot the ball better shooting 48.4% from the field and 25% from three. The Pioneers would go on a 10-2 run to open up the second half. Freddie Word in a five-minute span scored eight points.

Glenville remained dominant in the remaining 15 minutes of the contest. Jamarvious Jones continued to shoot well from deep and Jaelin Johnson and Harrison Eghan both would hit threes. With the Pioneers out-rebounding the Nittany Lions, GSU was able to get out in transition and make high-quality shots.

Junior Freddie Word led the team in scoring with 19 points and was two rebounds away from a double-double. The backcourt duo of Word and Jordan "Turbo" Smith combined for six steals. Jamarvious Jones, Jaelin Johnson, and Harrison Eghan all finished in double figures. Eghan a native of Bronx, N.Y., paired his 12 points with 12 rebounds for a double-double.
