GSU Men’s Basketball Loses a Close One to Notre Dame College 77-73

South Euclid, Ohio - Glenville State's Men's Basketball team was in another close game. However, this time the Pioneers were not able to pull away falling to the Falcons of Notre Dame College 77-73. GSU did produce 13 more shots than Notre Dame but would only shoot 22.6% from three. The Falcons were able to get to the line and shoot 38.5% from three going 10-26 from range.

The first 10 minutes of the half proved to be a battle with both squads trading blows. Jordan "Turbo" Smith got the Pioneer's offense going with a three. The Pioneers were able to jump out to a seven-point lead 16-9. Jacquez Yow got into the paint scoring a layup followed by a Jamarvious Jones three-pointer. Right before the under-ten media timeout, Notre Dame College's Dearius Barker cut GSU's advantage down to five. Barket finished the contest with 11 points shooting efficiently from the field.

Both teams continued to fight until the Falcons started to build a lead. NDC's Jevontae Jones started the Falcon's 18-4 run. In the last minute of the half, Jaedon Wills hit back-to-back threes making it 34-24. However, the Pioneer's Turbo Smith broke free and made a layup with two seconds left.

Coming out of the half Notre Dame College grew its advantage to double-digits at the 19:09 mark. The Falcons would take the largest lead of the game with a layup by Tyland Crawford. GSU continued to fight and eventually gained the advantage. Heading into the under-ten-minute media timeout of the second half, a layup by Harrison Eghan made it 46-42. With about nine minutes left in the contest, Isaac Lane gave the Pioneers the lead.

Notre Dame College once again produced a dominant run gaining a 10-point advantage with around five minutes remaining. Still trailing by ten Glenville would be running out of time with only 2:34 left on the clock. The Pioneers were able to cut the lead down to five by getting to the rim and taking advantage of a missed free throw by the Falcons.

After a layup by Turbo Smith made it 76-73, the Pioneers had to force a turnover since 19 seconds were left on the clock. Glenville's defense came in clutch forcing a five-second violation. The Pioneers missed their first attempt to tie the game but Jacquez Yow secured another chance. Glenville would get two more attempts from three but could not convert. Jaelin Johnson fouled right after the third miss sending Notre Dame College to the line with a second left. The Falcons hit the first free throw icing the game.

Jordan "Turbo" Smith led the Pioneers in scoring with 16 followed by Jacquez Yow with 15. Yow would be one rebound short of a double-double. Jay Scott, Freddie Word, and Jamarvious Jones finished the contest with ten or more points. Word led Glenville in assists with three and produced six rebounds.
