GSU Men’s Basketball Resumes Conference Play on the Road at Notre Dame College

Glenville, W.Va. - After a short pause in the conference portion of their schedule, the Pioneers resume MEC play against the Falcons of Notre Dame College Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Glenville is coming off a win against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Mont Alto. The Falcons are coming off their only conference loss of the season to West Liberty. 

A Look at Notre Dame College 

Notre Dame enters Wednesday Night's contest with a (2-3) overall record and (1-1) in the Mountain East Conference. The Falcons opened up the season with an exhibition against Division 1 Cleveland State University where they won 72-68. After the exhibition, Notre Dame College dropped their next two games to PSAC foes. Since the early skid NDC has only lost to #5 West Liberty. 

The Falcons are coached by Mark Richmond who enters his fourth season. During the 2021-22 campaign Richmond defeated two teams ranked inside the top ten. In coach Richmond's tenure, he has had three All-MEC selections.

As a team, Notre Dame College is shooting 46% from the field and a conference-high 40% from three. The Falcons are averaging 84.2 points per game which is 1.8 more than the Pioneers. However, NDC is allowing a conference-high 85.2 points per contest.

Through five games Jaedon Willis leads the MEC in points per game with 24.6. The Senior from Baltimore, Md. was a First Team All-MEC selection a year ago. Wills from the free throw line this is 84% only missing five attempts. Redshirt Sophomore Andre Harris currently is averaging a team-high in rebounds and assists. Harris so far this 2022-23 season is averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists at the guard position.

A Look at Your Pioneers

Glenville enters Wednesday with a (2-3) overall record and (0-2) in the league. The Pioneers have faced two perineal powers in the conference to start league play. In the win over Penn State Mont Alto GSU only had seven turnovers which was the lowest in a game this season. The Pioneers also had a season-high 53 rebounds in the winning effort.

As a team, Glenville is the best team in the conference at forcing turnovers. The Pioneers on average force 21.6 turnovers a game which ranks Coach Caldwell's squad seventh in the country. Forcing so many turnovers has helped GSU win the turnover battle on average by nine per contest ranking them fourth in the nation in turnover margin. Glenville has also been active on the glass offensively producing 15.8 offensive rebounds a contest which is seventh in the country and #1 in the MEC.

The Backcourt duo of Jordan "Turbo" Smith and Freddie word are both averaging 15.0 points per game. Word a native of Fort Myers, Fla. leads the team in rebounding averaging 6.8 per contest. Junior Harrison Eghan is coming off a double-double in last Sunday's contest accounting for 12 points and 12 rebounds in 19 minutes. Jacquez Yow and Jamarvious Jones wrap up the Pioneers averaging 10 or more points a game.
