The Pioneers Pickup Consecutive Wins Defeating the Big Blue 99-73

Bluefield, W.Va. - Glenville Men's Basketball team defeated Bluefield State 99-73 picking up consecutive wins for the first time this season. Once again the Pioneers shot the ball well going 50% from the field and 44% from three. Glenville's 18 rebound margin proved to be the deciding factor in tonight's non-conference matchup. 

Bluefield State opened up tonight's contest with a three by Chase Page. The Pioneers continued to battle and eventually took the lead 7-6. Jordan "Turbo" Smith continued from where he left off hitting his first three-point attempt of the game. Not until after the under-15 media timeout would GSU start to take control.

Freddie Word got the momentum to shift in the Pioneer's favor. Glenville after Word's made free throw produced a 14-3 run to grow their advantage to 13. During the run, Jamarvious Jones started to find his rhythm from deep. Jones would score three consecutive three-pointers for the Pioneers.

Coach Caldwell's squad continued to fire on all cylinders taking a 44-24 lead with 5:31 left in the first half. With the Big Blue getting to the free throw line and hitting shots from deep, Bluefield State cut the Pioneer's advantage down to 15. With Turbo hitting his second three of the half and a layup by Jaelin Johnson, Glenville entered with the lead 53-36.

Coming out of the half Bluefield State once again started to cut into GSU's double-digit lead. At the 18:17 mark, a layup by Landry Palata would make it an 11-point contest. Back-to-back threes by Jordan "Turbo" Smith answered the Big Blue's early second-half charge.

In the remaining ten minutes the Pioneers remained in control. Glenville continued to shoot the ball well staying in rhythm from the first half.  GSU shot 54.1% from the field and 33.3% from three in the last 20 minutes of the game. The Pioneers also continued to distribute the ball well producing 10 assists in the second half. A Layup by Harrison Eghan would close out the 99-73 Glenville State win.

Both Freddie Word and Harrison Eghan finished the game with a double-double. Word scored 21 points and accounted for 11 rebounds for the Pioneers. Eghan a native of Bronx, N.Y. grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds and produced 17 points for GSU. Jamarvious Jones tied Freddie with a game and team-high 21 points.
