The Pioneers in Dramatic Fashion Defeat Frostburg State 91-88

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball extended their winning streak to three games with a dramatic win over Frostburg State 91-88. The Pioneers were able to overcome a 13-point second-half deficit while going 8-27 from three. Coach Caldwell's squad now improves to (2-3) in the Mountian East Conference.

In the first minute of the contest, the Pioneers trailed 5-0 after two quick buckets by the Bobcats. With a three by Jaelin Johnson, Glenville made it a one-possession game. However, heading into the under-15 media timeout GSU trailed 15-8.

Coming out of the media timeout Frostburg continued to grow its advantage eventually reaching double-digits. Agyei Edwards and Tairell Fletcher resumed from where they left off in the opening minutes. Edwards finished the contest with 18 points and Fletcher finished with a game-high 34 points.

At the 9:41 mark, Glenville trailed by thirteen but started to claw away at the Bobcats' advantage. The pioneers went on a 16-8 in the remaining minutes before the half. GSU started to get to the rim and hit threes that they were not hitting earlier. With Frostburg State closing the last minute of the first half with a four-point swing, the Pioneers trailed 43-36

Coming out of the half, Frostburg continued their 4-0 run with a layup by Jason Murphy and back-to-back buckets by Tairell Fletcher. Glenville once again would trail by thirteen points. With the Pioneers getting to the rim and rebounding the ball well a Jamarvious Jones and-one gave GSU their first lead of the night.

In the remaining ten minutes both teams battled down to the wire. While Frostburg was in control for most of the remaining ten minutes, their advantage did not extend back to within double-digits. On three separate occasions, Glenville made it a one-point game. Not until a layup by Freddie Word with 2:05 remaining the Pioneers gained the lead. Jacquez Yow and Freddie Word both hit clutch free throws in the last minute. After a made layup by Frostburg's Jaylin Albury, Jordan "Turbo" Smith hit a free throw icing the game 91-88.

Jacquez Yow led the Pioneers in scoring with 31 points a new career high. Junior Freddie Word produced 17 points on 6-14 shooting from the field. Both Yow and Word were two rebounds shy of finishing with a double-double. Transfer Jamarvious Jones provided 13 points off the bench for the Pioneers in their winning effort.
