The Lady Pioneers Extend Their Winning Ways Defeating Frostburg State 103-75

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team extended their winning streak defeating the Bobcats of Frostburg State 103-75. The Lady Pioneers' strong shooting in the fourth quarter propelled them to extend their lead. Coach Stephens's squad shot 78.5% from the field and 75% from three.

Both teams opened up the contest by trading blows challenging for control of the first quarter. Tor'e Alford got the Lady Pioneers going with a three-pointer out in transition. Alford finished the contest 5-8 from deep. Coming out of the media timeout Glenville had the advantage 12-6. At the 3:22 mark, another Tore Alford three put GSU up by ten. Frostburg State would cut into the Lady Pioneers' lead with back-to-back buckets by Emily Weakley. However, Glenville closed out the opening quarter on a 6-0 run.

Early in the second quarter, the Bobacats continued to dig into GSU's advantage. With a 9-4 run Frostburg State only trailed by six 29-23. With the Lady Pioneers going cold in the second half shooting 29% from the field and 3-13 from three, Glenville's lead would be stagnant. Frostburg's MacKenzie Freeze helped the Bobcats stay in the game. Just in the second quarter Freeze produced 8 points. Heading into the half Coach Stephen's squad lead 45-34.

Coming out of the half both squads continued to trade baskets. With the Lady Pioneers getting to the rim and out in transition they were able to get high-quality shots. On four separate occasions, Glenville would have a 15-point advantage, but Frostburg's Emilee Weakley kept the Bobcats in striking distance. Weakley scored ten of her 34 points just in the third quarter. With a missed free throw by Frostburg State, GSU entered the fourth up 74-60. 

With consistent shooting by Mickayla Perdue and Dream Cherry in the first five minutes of the fourth, the Lady Pioneers were able to swing the momentum in their favor. Coming out of the final media timeout, Glenville went on a 9-0 run to close out the contest. During the stretch, Chalon Miles scored seven points on consecutive buckets. 

The Lady Pioneers had five players finish with double-figures. Mickayla Perdue led the team in scoring with 18. Transfer Tor'e Alford was close behind with 17 and also accounted for six rebounds. Guard Breanna Campbell produced 11 points for GSU and was just shy of a double-double with nine assists. Hya Haywood and Dream Cherry both finished with 11 points.
