GLENVILLE – Glenville's #1 ranked Lady Pioneers found their offensive rhythm again on Saturday afternoon, soundly defeating West Virginia Wesleyan . The game was played before a festive Winter Homecoming crowd 101-68.
Coach Kim Stephens' squad showed no signs of hangover from Wednesday night's lethargic performance at D&E and came out swinging against the Lady Bobcats. They rolled to 25 first quarter points, eventually building a 54-30 halftime lead. They built on that lead throughout the second half, topping the 100-point mark for the tenth time this season.
Glenville was aided by a big day from beyond the arc. The Lady Pioneers knocked down a staggering 20 three-pointers, going 20-of-51 from long range (39.2%). Vendela Danielsson led the charge connecting on six-of-nine threes and tallying 20 points. Kaylee Pierce his four-of-eight, and recorded 14 points. Dazha Congleton and Zakiyah Winfield each scored 14 as well, while Re'Shawna Stone joined the double-figure parade scoring 10. Taychaun Hubbard, Mashayla Cecil, and Tyesha Taylor all scored six.
Hubbard and Stoller led the team with eight and seven rebounds respectively, with Congleton, Stone and Hubbard all registering a team-high four rebounds. Hubbard also led in steals with three.
Glenville held a decided advantage in team rebounding 47-29. They also had a solid day at the free throw line, going 11-of-12 (91.7%).
Wesleyan was led by Electra Allembert with 23, and Courtney Wilfong with 16.
Glenville improves to a perfect 25-0, 20-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Wesleyan falls to 2-21 overall, and 1-20 in the MEC.
GSC is back on the road Wednesday night, traveling to the University of Charleston. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
