GLENVILLE – Glenville State's Pioneers utilized a scintillating second half Monday night, defeating a strong Salem Tiger squad 84-66. With the victory, GSC denied Salem their 20th victory of the season.
Salem had the stronghold early, building their lead to as high as 12 points at 29-17. Glenville made a late push in the half, cutting the margin to 39-37 at intermission. Glenville rallied in the second half and dominated down the stretch, building the lead to 20+ points in the final minutes. The Pioneers hit shots and tightened up defensively…all behind a noisy and boisterous Monday night crowd.
John Williams Jr. again led the scoring surge, posting a game-high 32 points, pulling down 11 rebounds, and recording seven assists. Adrian Scarborough continued to be a double-double machine, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Dajon Congleton was also critical during the second half run, draining five threes and scoring 19 points.
Glenville posted a strong advantage in team rebounding, 43-30.
Salem was led by Tobias Howard Jr. with 21 points, and Fonz Hale with 19.
Glenville has now won three consecutive games, and their record improves to 12-13. Salem falls to 19-7 with the loss.
Caldwell's crew now hits the road, traveling to Charleston on Wednesday night to face the powerful Golden Eagles.
Tip-off is set for 7:30.
