Box Score CHARLESTON – Glenville's Men's battled the strong University of Charleston squad down to the wire Wednesday night, falling to the Golden Eagles 81-74. The Pioneers led 62-55 with only 8:40 remaining, but UC ended the game with a strong surge to produce the comeback victory.
It was UC's Senior Night, but the Pioneers very nearly spoiled the party. The game featured ten lead changes, and neither team ever led by more than seven points. GSU held leads at several points of the first half, and trailed 35-34 at halftime. The Pioneers produced an 11-2 run midway through the second half, turning a 53-51 deficit into the aforementioned 62-55 lead. Unfortunately for GSU, UC answered with a 12-0 run of their own, and led through the final minutes.
Glenville put five players in double figures; John Williams Jr. led the way with 23, followed by Tommy Williams 12, and Adrian Scarborough, Luke LeRose, and Zane DeSouza all with 11. Scarborough added team highs with eight rebounds and four assists, while the Williams Jr. and Williams each corralled seven rebounds.
GSU shot 51.8% from the field, and hit 11 three-pointers. They also led in team rebounding 29-26.
Keith Williams led UC with 21 points, including consecutive threes during their late-game surge. Eddie Colbert III added 18.
Glenville falls to 12-14 with the loss, 8-13 in the Mountain East Conference. Charleston improves to 22-5 overall, 17-4 in the MEC.
GSU closes their league season Saturday, hosting Concord at the Waco Center. Tip-off is set for 4:00.
