GLENVILLE – On Wednesday night, Coach Kim Stephens' Lady Pioneers played in the first ever sporting event for the newly christened "Glenville State University," defeating a strong University of Charleston squad on the road, 74-63. On Saturday, the #1 ranked GSU team will be looking to make a different kind of history; they will be looking to complete an iconic undefeated regular season!
With a league championship already in the bag, the Lady Pioneers have one item of business left…Saturday's date with a 20-win Concord squad. The two teams have engaged in some titanic clashes in recent years.
Glenville enters the game 26-0 overall, and 21-0 in the MEC. They have been led by the duo of Zakiyah Winfield and Re'Shawna Stone, averaging 17.5 and 17.1 points per game respectively. Also averaging in double figures; Dazha Congleton at 11.4 and Taychaun Hubbard at 11.2. GSU leads the nation with a with a 98.1 scoring average.
Concord enters with a record of 20-9 overall, and 13-8 in the MEC. The Mountain Lions are led by Gilmer County native Riley Fitzwater who is averaging 17.2 points per game, and league leading 12.1 rebounds. Concord is coached by another Glimer County native, GSU alumnus Kenny Osborne.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 on the Waco Center's McPherson Court.
