Sara Scoone's Pioneers split their Saturday games at the Sue Morris Complex, running their season record to 2-2. They opened the day with a 4-2 victory over Mercyurst, and closed the night with a marathon 22-14 loss to Shippensburg.
Holly Brehm was again the story for the Pioneers, providing the complete game victory for GSU, going the distance and only giving up one earned run. She struck out ten while walking only one, running her record to 2-0. Brehm has struck out 28 hitters in her first two outings.
In the tight game, GSU received an RBI double from
Addison Aguiniga and a two-RBI single from
Natalie Fout.
In the nightcap, the two teams erupted for a combined 36 runs and 36 hits. The two teams also combined for 11 errors.
GSU posted an early 5-1 lead, but Shippensburg scored 11 unanswered run to post a 12-5 lead by the top of the fifth. GSU refused to fold, scoring seven runs in the fifth to tie it up 12-12. Shippensburg responded by scoring 10 runs over the last two innings, completing the eight run victory.
Haylee Stevens hit a towering two-run home run to help spark the GSU comeback. Several Pioneers had multi-hit nights, led by
Ashton Palmer with four hits, including two doubles and two RBI's.
Ashley Fridley,
Makenna Negley,
Jasmine Runk, and
Natalie Fout all had two-hit evenings.
GSU is back in action Sunday, closing their weekend tournament hosting Lock Haven
at 2:30.
