GLENVILLE – Glenville's Men got back on the winning track Saturday, posting an solid 100-78 victory over visiting Frostburg State. The Pioneers were clicking on both ends of the court through their dominant second half. They are now 7-3 at home this season.
While the game was close early, GSC seized control of the momentum late in the first half, taking a 48-41 lead into halftime. They gained the separation they needed in the early stages of the second half, racing out with a 30-11 run that produced a 78-52 lead. This gave Coach Justin Caldwell's team a comfortable margin with only 9:33 remaining. They were able to cruise home from that point.
Playing shorthanded without starters Nick Edwards and Luke LeRose, the Pioneers utilized the "Next Man Up" mentality, as five different Pioneers found double figures. These five players accounted for 98 of the team's 100 points.
Adrian Scarborough was almost perfect in his double-double performance; his sixth in the last seven games. He delivered 23 points and game-high 16 rebounds. He was a sterling 10-of- 11 from the field. John Williams Jr. continued to add to his league leading scoring average, registering a game-high 27 points, and snagging eight rebounds of his own. The sharp-shooting tandem of Zane DeSouza and Tommy Williams were both on target again, posting 17 points each, while the ever-improving Dajon Congleton chipped in with 14 points. Seth Fallon posted a strong floor game, grabbing six rebounds and recording a team-high seven assists.
To summarize briefly; Caldwell's squad took care of the basketball, and crashed the boards. They committed only six turnovers, a season best, and won the team rebounding battle 45-31. Led by the muscle of Scarborough, they snagged 18 offensive rebounds, giving the Pioneers a high volume of extra possessions.
GSC shot 38-of-74 from the field (51.4%), including 12-of-35 from three-point range (34.3%).
Juston Bailey led Frostburg with 16 points, followed by Jihar Williams and Agyei Edwards with 14 points each.
Glenville improves to 8-11 overall, and 5-10 in the Mountain East Conference. Frostburg falls to 6-16 overall, and 4-12 in the MEC.
GSC is back on the road next Wednesday night, facing nationally ranked West Liberty on "The Hilltop." Tip-off is set for 7:30.
