GLENVILLE – Coach Kim Stephens is in her sixth year as the head coach of the Glenville State Lady Pioneers…and for the sixth consecutive year, her program has advanced to the NCAA Tournament. This season, GSU enters the D-II version of March Madness as the #1 seed in the Atlantic Region. They will also be hosting this year's regional at Glenville's sparkling Waco Center.
Lincoln (PA) is Glenville's opponent in the First Round. The Lions come in with a 22-7 record, and league champions of the CIAA. They are led by their star Bryanna Brown, who is averaging 17.7 points per game. The team has a very balanced attack after that, as they have eight players averaging between 7.9 and 5.1 points per game. They are one of the top defensive teams in the region, giving up only 58.3 points per game.
Glenville comes in with a 29-1 record. The Lady Pioneers once again led the nation in scoring…averaging 97.1 points per game. They have been led by the duo of Re'Shawna Stone and Zakiyah Winfield. Stone was honored as both the MEC Player of the Year, and the Regional Player of the Year. She is averaging 17.1 points per game, and leads the team in assists (102), steals (66), and three-pointers made (59). Winfield leads the team in both scoring (17.8) and rebounding (7.0.
Also averaging in double figures; Dazha Congleton (11.5) and Taychaun Hubbard (11.4). In the team's deep rotation, there is a heavily balanced scoring group from there; Mashayla Cecil (8.0), Vendela Danielsson (7.3), Abby Stoller (7.1), Kaylee Pierce (5.8), and Tyesha Taylor (4.3).
Tip-off is set for 5:00 on the Waco Center's McPherson Court. It will be the third game on Friday's four-game card.
