Glenville, WV- Glenville State Track & Field hosted the 13th Annual Brandi Bowen Memorial invite on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers had a memorable start to the outdoor season honoring some former Pioneers, along with honoring the senior class. Thirteen seniors performed in their regular season home meet. Glenville would win the meet on the men's side and get second on the women's side.
Angela Ejimofor would win the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.27, and finish in the second in the 200m dash.
Alyssa Woods had a season best performance in the 800, finishing fourth.
Koschinya Jefferson,
Kaitlyn Luterek, and Sarah Mazzaferro would go 1-3-4 in women's discus.
Jasmin Brown, and
Kaitlyn Luterek would add third and fourth place finsihes in the hammer. Luterek would come back and also add a second place in Javelin. Brown would also finish third in shot put.
Koschinya Jefferson in her first ever heptathlon would finish first.
On the men's side, Travis Hill would finish fourth in his first ever 100m dash. Travis Hill would also add a second place finish and personal best in the pole vault. Vaulting teammating
Haden Coon would have a season best winning the pole vault. Coon would go on to win the 110H later in the meet. Senior
Derek Waugh would add an outdoor personal best in the 400, earning second place on evening. Brothers
Bryce Jarrell, and
Blake Jarrell would pick up victories in the home opener. Bryce would win the 10,000 and Blake would win the 3000m steeplechase. For both of them, it was their first time competing in those events.
Senior Nate Wheeler won the decathlon. This was Wheeler's first time competing in the multi event.
Otis Cox would go on to win the long jump with a personal best leap. This was just the start of a great day for the Pioneer men in the field events.
Tre Gulley would finish third in the triple jump, and the trio of
Brody Strawderman,
Ian Beller, and
Brandon Bowie would go 2-3-4 in the discus. Strawderman would add a first place in the hammer, Beller would follow up the discus with a second place finish in shot put, as well as a third in the hammer.
Christian Hanna was runner up on the day in the hammer.
Glenville Track & Field will head south this weekend to the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic. Events will start on Friday, and go into Saturday.
