GLENVILLE – Glenville's Softball squad completed their first weekend of Mountain East Conference action on Sunday, gaining a doubleheader split against the University of Charleston. The Pioneers took the first game in a tight pitcher's duel, 2-1, with Charleston coming back to take the second game 11-2.
Holly Brehm was again the story in Game One, providing another quality start, going the distance to claim her fourth victory of the young season. Only allowed two hits over her seven innings, and one earned run. She struck out 11 without allowing a walk. Sophia Delvecchio provide all of the offense that Brehm needed, delivering a two-RBI double in the third, scoring teammates Ashton Palmer and Natalie Fout.
Charleston came back Game Two, posting an early 4-1 lead after two innings, then gaining separation on a third-inning grand slam from Morgan Hoppe to push the advantage to 8-1. Glenville scored their first run in game two on a Fout RBI-single that scored Kaelyn Stenger. The second run scored in the fifth, as Delvecchio connected on a triple, and came home after an Eagle throwing error.
Glenville closes the weekend 5-11 overall, and 1-3 in the Mountain East. Charleston is now 9-9 overall, and 3-1 in the MEC.
Coach Sara Scoone's squad remains home next weekend, hosting both Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan at the Sue Morris Complex.
