Glenville State Softball Splits Doubleheader with Frostburg State

Coming into today's matchup the Pioneers were coming off a five-game winning streak and looking to extend this stretch. With an outstanding pitching performance from Holly Brehm, the Pioneers were able to extend the streak to six straight defeating Frostburg State 2-0. However, the Pioneers in the second game of the doubleheader fell to Frostburg State 6-0.

In-game one of today's doubleheader, Katelyn Richardson drove in the first run of the game for the Pioneers with an RBI single giving Glenville a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Once again pitcher Holly Brehm had a dominant performance with ten strikeouts and only walking one batter. Senior Jasmine Runk added more security to the Pioneer's lead with a sacrifice bunt that scored another run making it a 2-0 game in the bottom of the 5th. Freshman Monica Rodelo was almost perfect today in the batter's box going 2-3 in today's first matchup.

Game two of today's doubleheader started as a pitcher's duel all the way until the very last inning. Frostburg State has been known for its great hitting throughout this season. Late in today's contest, the bats caught fire for Frostburg State driving in seven runs defeating Glenville 6-0. Freshman Pitcher Madison Thimmes once again had a great start for the Pioneers pitching six innings today. With Pitcher Jamie Roberts throwing a complete game for Frostburg and only allowing eight hits and zero earned runs, the Pioneers could not find a way to drive in runs even with the team's eight hits.

Glenville improves their record to 12-21 with Saturday's split and improves to 10-13 in conference play.  Frostburg State elevates its record to 20-14 and its conference record to 15-8

Glenville returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader against Concord University at the Sue Morris Complex.
