Both teams came into today's contest on a hot streak of their own. Glenville had won 6 straight before losing to Frostburg State in the second game of last weekend's doubleheader. While Concord posted a 7-3 record in their last 10 games all coming in conference play. The Pioneers were able to pick up two more conference wins 6-5 and 3-2. Both games today were decided by key defensive plays late by the Pioneers.
In-game one of today's doubleheader, the Pioneers were able to first strike with Addison Aguiniga scoring on a passed ball. Glenville was able to tack on four more runs this inning with a grand slam by Freshman Sophia Delvecchio, her 5th home run of the year, to make it a 5-0 game. Pitcher Holly Brehm picked up her fifth consecutive win along with thirteen more strikeouts. Brehm was able to get more support from Jasmine Runk with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 6-0 game. Runk's home run ended up becoming the deciding run of the first game. Concord was able to tally five runs late in this game with key hits from Courtney Raines, Jolie Privett, and Kassidy Garvey.
Runs in the second game were at a premium with the final score being 3-2. The Pioneers once again were able to strike early with Monica Rodelo driving in a run with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Concord was able to strike back early in the top of the third with a sacrifice hit by Sarah Thompson to make it a tie game. Freshman Pitcher Madison Thimmes picked up another win by pitching six innings and striking out two batters. Glenville was able to regain the lead late in the bottom of the sixth with a 2 RBI single by Addison Aguiniga. Once again Concord posed a threat in the top of the seventh with Delaney Fulk driving in a run to make it a 3-2 game. Pitcher Holly Brehm was brought in to close the game for Glenville. By striking out two batters in a row, Brehm was able to pick up the save.
Glenville improves their record to 14-21 with Wednesday's sweep and improves to 10-13 in conference play. Concord falls to 15-29, and 8-16 in the league.
Glenville returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Notre Dame College at the Sue Morris Complex.
