GSU Softball Split Saturday Games with Notre Dame

GLENVILLE – Coach Sara Scoone's Pioneer softball team played to a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon, with the Pioneers taking Game One 7-2, with the Falcons bouncing back to take Game Two 5-2. It was Military Appreciation Day at the Sue Morris Complex, with both GSU teams wearing military green uniforms.

In Game One, pitcher Holly Brehm continued her dominance in the month of April, pitching to her seventh consecutive victory. She went the distance, allowing only two hits, two runs, striking out 13 while walking three.

Emma Gumont put Notre Dame up 2-0 in the top of the first on a two-run homer, but the Pioneers worked their way back. Jasmine Runk singled home Katie Richardson in the second, and Sophia Delvecchio singled home Haylee Stevens to tie the game 2-2 in the third.

Glenville took the lead with a four-run fourth; Richardson delivered the go-ahead RBI, singling home Danica Ruest, but the big blow came off the bat of freshman Addison Aguiniga. Aguiniga cleared the bags with a bases loaded triple, pushing the lead to 6-2. An add-on run was scored in the sixth, with Stevens recording a sacrifice fly that plated Richardson.

In Game Two, Notre Dame utilized a three-run first, spearheading a 5-2 Falcon win. Glenville was able answer with a pair of runs, but could not overcome the deficit. Monica Rodelo belted a solo homer in the second, while Ashton Palmer recorded the other RBI with a sixth-inning ground out that scored Haylee Stevens.
