GLENVILLE – Glenville's softball team closed their weekend with another split Sunday afternoon, trading wins with local rival Alderson-Broaddus. GSU materialized a sixth-inning comeback to take Game One, 5-4; but the Battlers bounced back to take Game Two with a 4-0 shutout.
In the opener, GSU pulled their 10th win in their last 12 games. Glenville scored two runs in the first, and a single run in the fifth to stake a 3-0 lead. A-B answered with a four-run sixth to take a 4-3 lead, but GSU answered with the aforementioned two-run sixth to reclaim the lead and take the victory.
Adison Aguiniga, Ashton Palmer, and Monica Rodelo each had two-games, with Rodelo and Haylee Stevens each producing two-RBI's. Sophia Delvecchio drove in the other run. On the mound, Holly Brehm went the distance, winning her seventh game in a row. She allowed six hits, four runs, and struck out 12. She now has 199 strikeouts on the season, and her record improves to 12-7.
In Game Two, the Battlers scored one run in the fourth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh. It was all they needed as pitcher Amber Corley delivered a four-hit shutout. Madison Thimmes had another complete game on the mound for GSU, allowing four runs and eight hits. She did not walk a batter.
Glenville enters the final weekend of play 16-23 overall, and 12-15 in the Mountain East Conference. Alderson Broaddus is 16-33 overall, and 5-23 in the MEC.
Coach Sara Scoone's GSU squad is on the road next weekend, traveling to D&E and West Virginia Wesleyan.
