ELKINS – Glenville's softball team traveled to Elkins on Friday afternoon, and split with the Davis & Elkins, the number two team in the MEC Southern Division. D&E defeated the Pioneers in Game One. 7-4, but Glenville bounced back to take Game Two 4-2.
In Game One, Glenville outhit the Senators 8-4, but could not overcome the commitment of six errors, leading to four unearned D&E runs. Offensively, Glenville's Monica Rodelo connected for a home run and recorded two RBI's. Makenna Negley delivered the other GSU RBI, with a Katie Richardson double the other Pioneer extra-base hit. On the mound, Holly Brehm saw her seven-game winning streak snapped. It was however a strong start, as she only allowed four hits, striking seven.
In Game Two, the Pioneers rallied behind a complete-game performance from starter Madison Thimmes. She went the distance, allowing only two runs, one earned. Offesnively, Haylee Stevens produced a three-for-four game, with Rodelo, Richardson, and Kaelyn Stenger registering RBI's. Stenger's triple was the lone extra-base hit in the contest for GSU.
Glenville is now 17-24 on the campaign, and 13-16 in the MEC. D&E moves to 24-25 overall, and 20-10 in the league.
Coach Sara Scoone's team is back in action on Saturday, playing two more road games. The opponent will be league leader West Virginia Wesleyan.
