Glenville Completes The Four Game Series Sweep Against Wesleyan

Glenville, WV - The Pioneers picked up two wins in their push to make the Mountain East Conference Tournament for the first time in school history. Glenville defeated West Virginia Wesleyan in the first game 15-1 and 9-3 in the second. With Glenville sweeping the four-game weekend series against West Virginia Wesleyan, the Pioneers now have a six-game winning streak against the Bobcats. Glenville's defense set the tone in this series by having four double plays.

In-game one of today's doubleheader Colby Werry provided the Pioneers with their first two runs in the bottom of the second with a single. However, in the top of the third Wesleyan answered with an RBI single by Leo White to make it a 2-1 game. Glenville's display of hitting and plate discipline in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Pioneers to extend their lead to make it a 6-1 game. Chase Swain was able to drive in a run with a single to centerfield and Matthew Mangum drove in Fabian Escalante with a double of the wall to centerfield. The Pioneers ended the inning with a two-run home run by Hunter Brown, the first of his career. As a team, the Pioneers finished with fourteen hits and two home runs. Nick Moore provided Glenville a great outing with four strikeouts and only one earned run. Moore and the Pioneer defense performed their best when the bases were loaded. Three times in the first game the Pioneers were able to escape the inning with no harm.

Game two of today's doubleheader started with Glenville's Tre'von Smith bringing in one run with an RBI single. Fabian Escalante's three-run homer propelled Glenville to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Once again for the Pioneers in this series, extra base hits and home runs were in play often with the team hitting two extra base hits and three home runs. Tre'von continues his hot hitting streak with another three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. Pitcher Austin Corn was able to pick up his fourth win of the season. With Pioneers using multiple arms in the last series, Corn's complete game gave the Pioneer bullpen much-needed rest.

Glenville improved their record to 27-13 overall and 15-11 in conference play while West Virginia Wesleyan fell to 3-34 overall and 3-23 in conference play. The Pioneers will go on the road for a two-game series against the Concord Mountain Lions at Anderson Field in Athens, West Virginia. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 6th.
