Lady Pioneers Kick off Bobcat Volleyball Classic

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville's Volleyball program travels this weekend to Buckhannon, W.Va. participating in the Bobcat Volleyball Classic. The Pioneers first matchup of the tournament will be the hosts West Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 PM followed by Kentucky State at 8:00 PM.

West Virginia Wesleyan enters the tournament with a 1-8 record with two losses against top 25 teams. The Bobcats are coached by Nancy Wheeler who is entering her sixth season at Wesleyan. Under Wheeler's direction, the Bobcats are 7-3 against the Pioneers in the last ten matchups. Hope Arce-Redd leads West Virginia Wesleyan this season in kills with 74 followed by Mya Bajramovic with 73. Senior setter Payton Hefner has produced 139 assists this season. Defensively for the Bobcats Autumn Molenhouse leads the team with 129 digs which is ninth in the Mountain East Conference. 

Kentucky State enters with a 2-10 record overall and a conference record of 1-0. The Thorobreds are coached by Eileen Butts entering her first season under the helm. Shaska Davis leads Kentucky State in kills this season with 72.  Audi Hicks has produced 19 service aces followed by Amaya Johnson with 12. Johnson has also made an impact defensively for the Thorobreds by producing 87 digs.

For the Lady Pioneers, this weekend's matches will wrap up non-conference play. Coach Kevin John's squad is off to a hot start entering this weekend with an 8-3 record. As a team, Glenville ranked 20th in the nation in aces per set, 6th in opposing hitting percentage, and 11th in team service aces. Katarzyna Niderla leads the Pioneers in kills with 136 and aces with 22. Freshman Rita Kelly has also been a contributor for Glenville this season. Kelly has produced 84 kills for the Lady Pioneers. Junior setter Julia King leads the team in assists with 204 and has also produced 18 aces for Glenville. Defensively for the Lady Pioneers, Lindsay Winkler and Zoe Schmidt have been solid. Winkler has produced 139 digs during the 2022 campaign followed by Schmidt with 95.
